Yemen Water Crisis Response

Addressing the Yemen water crisis: Restoring access, building solutions, saving lives

Der Yemen water crisis is leaving millions without access to safe water and sanitation. Today, 12.4 million people lack clean drinking water und 9.6 million have no adequate sanitation facilities. As the country’s WASH infrastructure collapses, health risks are rising. In coastal regions and even inland, high salinity in well water causes serious health issues. Poor hygiene and contaminated water fuel the spread of disease, with recurring cholera outbreaks threatening millions of lives.

Vision Hope's response to the Yemen water crisis

  • Rehabilitation of water systems: We repair wells and elevated water tanks to restore safe water access.

  • Solar-powered water supply: We install solar energy systems to sustainably operate water infrastructure.

  • Awareness campaigns: We educate communities on cholera prevention, hygiene practices, and the rational use of water.

  • Improved sanitation services: We rehabilitate water networks, install photovoltaic systems, and set up solar-powered desalination plants. The brine byproduct is used for fish farming and Salicornia cultivation, creating new livelihoods.

  • Sanitation facilities in schools and health centers: We build hygienic sanitation units to reduce disease and support children’s education.

  • Capacity building: We strengthen local civil society committees, community leaders, and authorities to ensure long-term solutions to the Yemen water crisis.

Erfolgsgeschichte
