Yemen humanitarian relief: Protecting vulnerable children

Since the war began in 2015, tens of thousands of Yemeni children have been orphaned. The country’s collapsing social services have left state orphanages unable to care for them. Many families have also been forced to flee their homes due to conflict or natural disasters, joining millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who struggle for food, shelter, and income. This vulnerable population also faces increased risks of violence and exploitation. In this difficult context, our Yemen humanitarian relief efforts focus on caring for orphans and displaced families, and strengthening children’s mental health.

Vision Hope's interventions in Yemen for humanitarian relief and child protection

  • Yemen orphan care: We support the Hajjah orphanage, providing essential food and hygiene items.

  • Emergency relief: We deliver crucial relief packages to displaced families in crisis areas, including ready-to-eat food rations and dignity kits for women and girls.

  • Psychological support: Our teams offer individual and group therapy sessions in refugee camps and schools.

  • Training and strengthening: We expand psychosocial support in schools by training social workers, teachers, and psychologists.

  • Expansion of mental health care for children: We strengthen the pediatric department of a psychological therapy center to better address the unique needs of children affected by the crisis.

قصة نجاح

In August 2024, catastrophic floods devastated the Milhan district, destroying houses and roads and cutting villages off from the outside world. Families were left without food, water, and essential goods— completely isolated. When roads
to Al-Qibla became impassable, our team braved landslides and flooding to supply 148 households. Access to Hamdan‘s remote mountain villages was even more difficult. With vehicles stuck, the team used camels to transport 154 emergency kits. After a four-hour walk, our team was the first to reach the affected families and deliver life-saving aid.
