Maternal and child nutrition project: Combatting malnutrition in Yemen
Project: Maternal and Child Nutrition Assistance
Approach: Relief
Donor: World Food Programme
Budget: 1,082,635 EUR
Beneficiaries: 131,121
Duration: 2023
Vision Hope implemented the Maternal and Child Nutrition Project in Hajjah, Al-Mahweet, and Al-Hodidah to address the critical issue of malnutrition in Yemen, aiming to reduce the mortality rate and prevalence of underweight children under five years old, as well as pregnant and lactating women. This nutrition project focuses on three key intervention activities:
Targeted Supplemental Feeding Program: This component addresses malnutrition in Yemen by providing specialized nutrition assistance and treatment to children under five years old and pregnant and lactating women who are experiencing moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) and severe acute malnutrition (SAM). These services are offered in 85 community health facilities.
Comprehensive Supplementary Feeding Program: As part of the nutrition project, community health volunteers distribute blanket feeding supplements (Plumpy Doz) to all children under two and Wheat Soya Blend (WSB) to pregnant and lactating women across 201 distribution points. This effort is crucial in combating malnutrition in Yemen.
Infant and Young Child Feeding: The nutrition project also emphasizes education within communities to improve knowledge and skills regarding feeding practices, particularly infant and young child feeding, as well as healthcare and hygiene practices.

Nutrition project for IDPs and host communities: Addressing malnutrition in Al-Hodeida and Hajjah, Yemen
Project: Nutrition Assistance for IDPs and host communities
Approach: Relief
Donor: OCHA
Budget: 202,065 EUR
Beneficiaries: 7,942
Duration: 2023
The project provided life-saving nutrition assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in Al-Qanawis and Abs districts of Al-Hodeida and Hajjah governorates, directly adressing malnutrition in Yemen. It specifically targeted the critical nutritional needs of vulnerable individuals within these communities.
To achieve this, support was provided to three health facilities, a temporary health point, and a mobile team, which offered two interventions:
Infant and young child feeding (IYCF): Pregnant and lactating women received individual or group counseling on IYCF at designated counseling corners in health facilities. Additionally, communities were educated to enhance their knowledge and skills in feeding practices, especially those related to infant and young child feeding, as well as healthcare and hygiene practices, crucial in combating malnutrition in Yemen.
Basic health and nutritional services: The mentioned healthcare services are supported and provided with the necessary materials, equipment, and supplies to offer an integrated package of primary health care (IMCI, nutrition, ANC, management of SAM/MAM, etc.).
